Kayliegh is a ball of energy, and you would never know that age four she was diagnosed with “Unknown Genetic Issue.” As with most rare conditions, the family has been seeing numerous doctors to find out more about this condition and potential healing procedures or methods. Kayliegh’s family is hoping to find a clinical trial that might help them pinpoint her exact genetic issue.
The typical undiagnosed condition takes an average of 7.6 years, 8 physicians, and 2-3 misdiagnoses to correctly identify. Up to 80% of the 6,800 rare diseases are genetic in origin, and every one of us carries at least 3 devastating “rare” disease-causing mutations.
In addition to an unknown genetic issue, Kayliegh suffers from Vitamin D Deficiency and Celiac Disease, a condition which damages the lining of the small intestine and prevents it from absorbing parts of food that are important for staying healthy. The exact cause of Celiac Disease is unknown and there is no cure.
Kayliegh’s energy is being put to good use in her new uniform as an honorary member of the Bowie Stars!
